The University has set aside funds intended to support new initiatives that positively contribute to the quality of undergraduate social life at the University. In particular, the Alcohol Initiative strives to promote safe, fun, and alcohol-free alternatives for students throughout the academic year to foster a more inclusive, healthy, and diverse social scene for students.
In funding events, the Alcohol Initiative board gives priority to late night social events that take place on Thursday or Saturday nights from 10pm to 2am, but will consider proposals for events that occur on other dates and times typically associated with high alcohol consumption (e.g. occasional Fridays, Dean’s Date, etc.).
All members of the Princeton University community, including individual students and faculty, any student group, department or office, are eligible to apply for Alcohol Initiative grants. Successful applications generally have several of the following characteristics:
- Are large-scale, high impact events
- Bring together a wide spectrum of the student population
- Are partially funded by the sponsoring group
- Have well-developed plans for advertising in advance
- Engage students throughout an evening rather than being one stop on a road to other events
